Nights like this are starting to become common between them, ever since Katar came home from the hospital. Ever since the start of the Shadow War, Jim has found himself growing closer to his oldest foes. Now, he can't deny the fondness he feels for them. Seeing Katar broken, unsure of he was going to make it, did something to his non-existent heart.
So he currently finds himself curled up on the Hols couch, pressed between the two of them as a movie plays on the television. Being able to materialize at will comes in handy! Beside him, Shayera jolts, a gasp escaping her. Jim has to duck to avoid being smacked in the face by one of her earrings. He promptly tells her so.
"Oh! Sorry about that, Jim. I should have taken these things out the moment I knew we were planning to put on a scary movie," she apologizes, a gentle smile on her face as she places the earrings on the coffee table.
"Those are a symbol of our love, you know that? On Thanagar, they're an equivalent of Earth's wedding rings," Katar says.
"Oh? Dear Shayera, why would you ever willingly take off your wedding band to your beloved husband? And why does Katar not wear some?" Jim questions, curious.
"I have some, but I couldn't wear them for our safety. It's rather frowned upon for Earth men to wear earrings, as you should know. I didn't want to stand out as Thanagarian," Katar explains. That makes sense to Jim.
"Peacock, you could start wearing them again, now that we've been revealed," Shayera says, then turns to Jim, "Why? Are you jealous, our precious ghost? Would you like a pair of your own?" The implication hangs heavy in the air. Do they truly want him so deeply?
"I appreciate the offer, but you say that as if I could wear some, Shayera," Jim huffs. He's a ghost! He wishes he could wear them. He wants to belong to his hawks forever.
"Well why not? If you can materialize, surely we can pierce your ears and give you some. That would be fine, wouldn't it, Katar?"
"Hm. It's sound logic to me," Katar smiles. It does make sense, he supposes. And although he doesn't say it, Jim knows that means he wants him to have them too.
"Alright, my dear hawks, I'll get some. But first, our movie?" Jim's non-existent heart is pounding and the needs the distraction.
